Dr. Mai is a board-certified optometrist who is certified to diagnose and treat ocular diseases such as keratoconus. He is one of only two optometrists in Orange County, CA with a Fellowship of the Scleral Lens Society.

Dr. Mai focuses primarily on specialty contact lenses. In particular, he works with patients suffering from corneal diseases such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, and damaged corneas from refractive surgery or corneal transplants. Because he is highly nearsighted himself, he has a strong passion for myopia management with orthokeratology and other methods to slow or stop the progression of myopia in children.

He went to UCLA and quickly learned that optometry was the right fit for him. Dr. Mai got his doctorate and graduated summa cum laude at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University. His clinical rotations included Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hospital, San Diego Center for Vision Care, and VA Nevada.

He has worked in all different types of clinic settings and treated a variety of eye diseases you’d never wish on your worst enemy. Dr. Mai trained under eye surgeons that repaired retinal detachments on NBA players and even did a vision therapy rotation with the San Diego Padres official eye doctor. After graduating, he spent his time working in clinics dedicated to treating keratoconus, vision therapy, corneal reshaping or orthokeratology.

He treats keratoconus patients from all around Orange County, CA: Costa Mesa, Irvine, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Lake Forest, Tustin, and beyond! He is passionate about providing the best treatment for keratoconus, along with his partner, Dr. Valerie Lam at Insight Vision Center Optometry.
